SFC’s First Intern Ever!
Hello! I’m Dawn, Smart Fit Chicks’ FIRST intern ever! How lucky am I to work for a company whose primary purpose is to empower others and show them that they are worth self love?! You may have seen my name floating around social media, so we thought it would be a good idea to get to know who the heck this Dawn person is! 🙂
A little bit about me:
I was born and raised in colorful Colorado. I grew up outdoors, hiking, biking, swimming, sailing, skipping and skiing. The mountains and outdoors are what ignited my passion for physical activity and creating a healthy lifestyle at a young age. That love for being active quickly began to expand once I hit high school. High School was also when I started yoga, and I became immersed. Yoga gave me confidence to begin trying things that are a little more intimidating, and that is where lifting began. I was very surprised at how much I truly loved lifting heavy, getting stronger and seeing changes in my body. In 2013, I became a Group Fitness Instructor and taught strength classes and interval classes. In 2014, I was able to get certified to teach yoga and personal train. I have been teaching yoga and training people ever since, and I am very passionate about empowering others to create a healthy lifestyle unique to them. Currently my favorite forms of physical activity are lifting, yoga, and hiking.
I am the youngest of three, and my family is one of the most important parts of my life. I love to try new exotic food, and cannot wait for my next adventure. Whether that is trying a restaurant I have never been to, going on a hike or doing something that makes me scared. I am also getting married in July, which is an adventure in itself, and for our honeymoon we are backpacking Europe! Traveling and learning about others excites me. At the same time, I am a huge homebody; I love gardening, baking, and spending time by myself.
How did I end up as an intern at Smart Fit Chicks?
Chrissy was my coach for my first body building (bikini) competition in April 2014. Through that experience I learned so much about myself and an extreme aspect of the fitness industry. The message that Smart Fit Chicks sends to women is SO needed in the world today. Their message is that every woman can (and must!) learn how to respect her body and her mind, love herself for who she is, and to strive for self growth every day. And with that confidence and self love, she will then be able to empower other women to do the same. I absolutely love what the company stands for which is why I asked them if I could be their first intern, and they said yes!
My Career Goals:
My mom always taught me that if I put in the work, if I find my purpose, I can accomplish anything. She also taught me that I must always be kind, she’d say, “you never know what people are going through, or why people act the way that they do”. My purpose in life is to show people that they are worth a healthy life and that they are worth treating their body with love. Once people feel self worth and self love, it is much easier to find purpose and to make their dreams become real. Once people follow their passion, they are happy, and that creates a happier world. Being happy with who you are makes being kind to others natural and real.
I plan to live out my purpose by continuing personal training, teaching group fitness and teaching yoga. However, I want to reach as many people as I can. To expand my reach, I want to write books, and travel to teach yoga and/or run bootcamps. I also want to make everything I do accessible to those who may have disabilities, mental and physical.
