In November of 2013, I lost my job due to layoffs. It was the end of an extremely challenging year. I had lost my grandfather, a man who meant more to me than just being a grandfather, and I had gained 30 pounds after moving to Denver, completely abandoning yoga and workouts, and having an extended bout of depression. During the period of time between losing my job and getting a new job, I began realizing how disappointed I was in myself that I’d abandoned my efforts at health, and when I started my new job, I vowed to always take the stairs, and to join the gym in the basement of my new office building. Fast forward a little over a year, and I’m currently practicing yoga again, going to the gym 3-5 times per week, and hiking regularly to train for climbing a 14er. I’m feeling happier and stronger, and my relationship with food, while still a work in progress, has improved in a major way, as I’m working towards intuitive eating.

What happened in that intervening year? You might say it was counting macros, or doing the workouts that Kellie gave me, but what she gave me was much bigger than that. When I signed on to be coached by Kellie and Chrissy, I was desperate to lose weight, and I joined for the reasons that most people get a fitness coach – to get the meal plan and the exercise plan to get me there, along with accountability for following those plans. What I got was a lot of questions about why I felt what I felt, what I thought I should do, and the guidance to help me do what I felt I needed to do. My plan was tailored to fit me, because Kellie asked the right questions to get me to come up with that plan. While Kellie did, and still does, provide me with exercise plans and macronutrient plans, the real value in what Kellie and Chrissy do is their style of coaching, which leads to greater trust in yourself, which in turn, leads to immensely positive results in physical and emotional well-being. I cannot express how much what they did for me has helped me, and how much better it has made me feel. I  wholeheartedly recommend either of them, especially if you’ve been on that merry-go-round of dieting and exercising for a long time, and are tired of the anxiety it causes.

In October of 2014, I decided I wanted to compete in my first figure competition. I asked around about coaches and businesses that could help me with my goals, and Chrissy’s name kept coming up! I contacted Chrissy, and we began working together almost immediately. For the next 8 months, Chrissy and I worked together and I walked up on stage for my first competition in May of this year!

The competition was exciting and incredibly fun, but the 8 months of work I put in to get there taught me so much more than I ever expected. Chrissy gave me a plan that challenged me in all the right ways. Through working with her, I learned how strong I am – physically, emotionally, and mentally. I learned how to listen to my body again, and how to give it the fuel, challenges, and appropriate rest it needs. But, most importantly, I truly feel that I learned how to love myself and respect myself no matter what.

In 8 months time, I grew into a person that I am so proud of and walking on stage in my glittery pink suit was just the symbolic moment for all that I had learned and achieved on my journey to get there. Chrissy and Smart Fit Chicks totally facilitated this amazing journey for me, and Chrissy went above and beyond to make sure that I was not only just physically where I needed to be, but that I was keeping a healthy emotional and mental perspective. I am incredibly grateful that I was able to work with her, because it changed my life for the better in so many ways. It was challenging, eye-opening, and a lot of fun!

This was my second time doing wellness coaching with SmartFit Womxn. The first time, I had very specific goals focused on weight loss and overall nutrition. This second time I started feeling a bit lost and unsure of what I really needed, but I know I needed something. It became pretty clear during the first session that my head was a bit of a mess and that was affecting so many choices I was making in my life. While Brittni may not have expected to act as a part-time psychologist and part-time health coach, she did exactly that. We spent a lot of time working on my mental wellness, something I had never done before. It was more difficult than setting a goal of losing XX pounds. But before I could take on a larger goal, I know I needed to work on this. I was spending so much energy on negative self-talk and putting myself down. I did not respect all the positive things I was already doing. With this larger overall mental wellness goal, I was able to also create tangible health goals that I enjoyed working on, such as setting up a bedtime routine, prepping food for easy-to-grab snacks and meals, and trying new exercise classes. I have spent the last six months with Brittni, and while I’m still working on things, I am in such a better place. I am working on accepting my body for what it is now…and not what it could be. This experience was just so positive and reaffirmed so many things for me, like knowing I have everything I need, if I’m just able to trust myself. Thank you!

My mother was the most beautiful woman I’d ever known.  She was smart, funny, strong, compassionate, kind and most of all she loved her children and family fiercely.  Losing her to cancer at the age of 18 was the most shattering and life-altering thing I’d ever been through.  Time passed – I went to college, made amazing friends that took great care of me.  I decided to get a degree in teaching (just like my mother).  I found love – my soulmate and partner for life…all at the ripe age of 19.  Crazy, huh?  Fast-forward a few years…I graduated, got married, started teaching, started a wedding photography business, left teaching, photographed over 100 weddings, went back to teaching, stopped photography and got pregnant with my first child.  Yikes.  That’s A LOT of shit to deal with when you write it all out!

Truth be told, I’d never dealt with “it”.  I’d never dealt with the pain of losing my mother…and that realization didn’t hit me fully until I became a mother myself. I held my beautiful baby girl in my arms – and I realized I’d never loved anything so deeply in all my life.  I realized that I’d been filling the void of her with other things…keeping my mind busy. But you can’t keep your mind busy when you’re up nursing your newborn babe for the zillionth time.  I fell apart.  I immediately started seeing a therapist.  I learned a lot about myself.  It brought me completely out of my comfort zone and forced me to deal with my choices.  It forced me to make changes.  Much like my mother, I am a caretaker by nature.  I thrive on making sure everyone else’s needs are met before my own.  It is a part of me that is so deeply engrained.  It is a beautiful characteristic to have, but also one that needs serious boundaries.  Boundaries I’d been without for a long time.  I began working out.  I started being more conscious of the food I was using to fuel my body.  But more importantly I started putting myself first more often.

Fast-forward a few years later – my time with my therapist had come to an end.  I was now the mother of two amazing kids.  My lovely hubby and I were hoping to add another little minion into the mix and life was again feeling a bit chaotic.  I wasn’t giving myself any time.  I was always taking care of someone else, and I knew that I would really struggle with balancing life if I were to become pregnant.  I missed the accountability of having someone to check-in with on a weekly basis.  So when my sister-in-law asked what I wanted for Christmas, without hesitation I suggested “wellness coaching”.  Chrissy ran with the idea and set me up with Brittni for wellness coaching sessions.Brittni was just what I needed.  Someone to help remind me of my priorities and vision when it came to wellness.  Someone to listen and offer suggestions on ways to make the changes I wanted to make.  Wellness coaching isn’t just someone telling you to eat this and do these workouts.  Brittni was an advocate for the change that I wanted to see in myself.  She facilitated discussions and helped me to set goals and push through limitations.  Most of all, she provided me with the accountability that I really needed.  Our weekly sessions forced me to set aside some time for myself…more importantly, to prioritize my health and time so that I can be the best mommy, wife and teacher I can be.  My time with Brittni was invaluable and I’m grateful for the experience and the impact that it’s had on my life.

Life can get overwhelming, especially when you are entering a new career and are in the infancy stages of learning new skills. For me, it has always been easier to put family and others before myself, even though I knew it was not a sustainable behavior. I was in a rut: my eating habits were not as heathy as they had been, my exercise routine was overly demanding, I struggled with my energy level, and I was beating myself up emotionally. That’s why I reached out to Smart Fit Chicks. I needed to be coached on how to make long-lasting changes that would have a positive effect on my life.

Brittni is amazing! She helped me to help myself by setting 3-month goals that were truly specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely. Our weekly meetings were full of insight, growth and many Aha Moments, as I set weekly goals that helped me meet my overall 3-month goals or new goals that just come up. Brittni was so supportive, sincere, and knowledgeable. I now have the tools to make sure I am taking care of myself, which will enable me to be a better wife and mom! And have more energy to take on the demands of my job.Thank you, Smart Fit Chicks. I am sure I will be back for periodic 1-month sessions- just to stay on track.

I loved working with Brittni. I was blown away by how much I could change in just 3 months. I thought we would focus on just body image and wellness but it was so much more than that. We talked about every aspect of whole-hearted living mind, body, and soul. If you are wanting to change your routines and have lasting change this is definitely the way to go!

Before I started working with Smartfitwomxn I didn’t realize that the coaching I needed wasn’t physical. At first I requested assistance with exercise and losing those last 5 pounds. Yet, I didn’t need to lose 5 pounds. I needed to lose the negative self-talk. I needed to find my confidence, and that’s exactly what Kellie taught me! She coached me through a variety of tools that help set my day off on a positive foot. She helped me realize what is actually important to me and what I need to drop. Plus, she helped me work through some anxious and stressful feelings. Wellness coaching, for me, was a mix of counseling and life coaching. I can honestly say that I am better able to recognize what I want/don’t want, what my goals and passions actually are, where I see myself in 6 months (mentally, physically, and emotionally), and how to be the star of my own story. Thank you so much!!

Working with Brittni has literally changed my life. I knew her through a mutual friend but had never worked with her as a coach before. She is incredibly understanding and patient, she encourages, and never judges. She meets you where you are and puts a lot into getting to know you for you. She is knowledgeable and passionate. Brittni is an absolute dream to work with, and I can’t wait to work with her again!
